I was just reading about Pregnancy Outcomes in Unicornuate Uteri.
Really hits home just how lucky I was.
Our review revealed 20 studies of varying size and design that had commented on pregnancy outcomes in unicornuate uteri. These studies ranged in date from 1953 to 2006 and from a sample size of one to 55 patients. In total, we examined 290 women with unicornuate uterus reported in the literature. Of those patients, 175 conceived, to carry a total of 468 pregnancies. Incidence data in the literature reveal that unicornuate uterus occurs in 1:4020 women in the general population; the anomaly, however, is significantly more common in infertile women, as in women with repeated poor outcomes. Our review revealed rates of 2.7% ectopic pregnancy, 24.3% first trimester abortion, 9.7% second trimester abortion, 20.1% preterm delivery, 10.5% intrauterine fetal demise, and 49.9% live birth.

I’m assuming that when they say abortion they mean spontaneous abortion? 49.9% live delivery rate- wow. 50/50 really. I have an arcuate uterus, and I’ve seen rates of 60-70% live, term births. I’ve read on Gas Passer’s blog that the longer you can make it through a pregnancy, and stretch your uterus, the better the outcome for subsequent pregnancies. Is this so?

I think what was amazing about you was that you went so long and with no cervical troubles!!! amazing. You are really lucky, but that is awesome! And I am just so happy that despite some of your pregnancy miseries, you and the babe did great!! And don’t forget you worked hard to get there….
Hope you are feeling good. I have been thinking about you.

It feels good to fall on the good side of the statistics for one, doesn’t it? Lucky, indeed.
Thanks for leaving me the link to that surrogacy article the other day. I left my opinions over on my blog.

I know–I think of statistics like that and I just look at my beautiful healthy kid and shake my head at how lucky we were, despite the bedrest etc.

Statistics have never been kind to me, but I’m always glad when I hear of someone that has beaten the odds – and very glad that you fell into the right side of statistics. Its awesome when things go right!
Thank you for your very supportive comment on my blog. thanks for understanding.
